Rainbow Lake Resort, in a remote, quiet 25 acre valley, is located in scenic Transylvania County, land of waterfalls, only seven miles south of Brevard, North Carolina yet far from the frantic pace of today's world. Great for quiet walks and cool evenings filled with the sound of frogs and crickets. There's plenty of spots for quiet meditation, morning yoga and enjoyment of our private wildlife refuge.
Rainbow Lake has some special qualities about it that we hope you may appreciate. We are not Disney World… We are Carolina Blue Mountain Country. Our roads are gravel and there are dogwoods and rhododendron, mountain laurel, waterfalls and wild geese. The nearby East Fork of the French Broad River is one of the cleanest, clearest mountain rivers you’ll ever experience…or fish. We are at the headwaters of one of the oldest rivers systems on earth in an area that has retained its primal beauty.
You can also touch the sky at Shining Rock Wilderness – a pure white quartz outcropping at the top of one of the highest mountains around. A nearby 8,000 acre public forest will be established here shortly..it is a vast wilderness area between Routes 276 and 178 just down the road.
The Greening of Rainbow Lake
In an effort to improve our environmental footprint we are instigating several programs here at the resort. All of our cottages will have recycling bins and energy efficient lighting. One of our cottages, cottage Q, features an “Atticus’ solar space heating system and we plan to install more of these systems at the resort. In addition we plan to install a small hydroelectric power plant at our dam in the near future that will power our event pavilion, gazebo and grounds lighting as well as some of our cottages.
Nearby Activities
Our guests have access to the Brevard Athletic Club, only ten minutes away,for a small per person fee. It offers 5 gyms, 2 pools, tennis courts, steam, sauna, Jacuzzi, and more. Racquetball, massage, facials and full day spa amenities are available for additional fees.
There are also several golf courses within a ten minute drive that welcome visitors. Asheville, with its famed Biltmore House and renowned music, arts and healing activities, is just 50 minutes away. With the Brevard Music Center and the Brevard College Porter Center, there's plenty of music at your fingertips. The surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains are filled with outstanding hiking and mountain biking trails, as well as horseback riding. The forest here is classified as a temperate rain forest, so there is a terrific number of breathtaking waterfalls which are yours to behold on a guided waterfall tour. Green Weddings at Rainbow Lake
As for events at the resort, we are introducing several biodegradable products and other renewable resources that can be used at the ceremony and reception and we will be recycling and composting everything that we can.
